Event Systematic perspective

The management lesson is to retain context when a widely shared study is updated. A result from one set of tools and tasks should not become a permanent rule for every team. Equally, a promising new estimate does not justify claiming a reliable improvement before the measurement is sound.

Maintain an evidence register for each pilot: task, participants, tool version, measurement method and known limitations. When a significant change occurs, decide whether the original comparison remains useful. This makes it possible to learn from research without alternating between unqualified enthusiasm and dismissal.

Put it into practice

  • Date productivity claims and state which workflow and system they describe.
  • Record changes in participant selection or task difficulty that could affect comparisons.
  • Use a new controlled comparison when the original baseline no longer represents current work.
